ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION

Introduction

Motor vehicle accident reconstruction can be defined as determining where and how a motor vehicle mishap occurred.

ADTAL's qualifications allow us to provide the best reconstruction analysis possible with the available data. We verify the results with alternative methods, if feasible, and consider the reasonable range of the results. We help the client determine the amount of weight that can be assigned to the results by explaining the analysis and its limitations.

The reconstructionist

  • Works back from known physical data, such as final positions of the vehicles and scratches, gouges and tire marks.
  • Applies the laws of motion and vehicle dynamics during the course of a collision event, and determines where the collision occurred.
  • Uses various mathematical techniques to determine how fast the vehicles were going as they approached the collision scene.

The effect of doing the reconstruction, therefore, is to start at the end of the event, and then run the movie backwards, to determine the point of impact, and to make an assessment of those driver activities which could have caused or contributed to the cause of the collision.
