The Collision Event

When two vehicles collide, they first touch at the point of initial impact (POI), and then intrude into the fabric of each other, to the point of maximum engagement. Often the cars will then start to separate and move away from each other along their post-impact path and each will come to rest at its final position.

Sometimes, as is the case with a moving vehicle hitting a stopped vehicle, for instance, there will be no separation and the struck vehicle will simply be pushed ahead of the striking vehicle to the final position.
